The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal by the Ministry of Defense to enhance the country’s air defense by involving air defense volunteer formations using FPV anti-aircraft drones and piloted aircraft.
According to Taras Melnychuk, the Government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, the experimental project will run throughout the duration of martial law but no longer than two years.
The initiative aims to strengthen Ukraine's air defense by engaging members of paramilitary units and voluntary territorial defense formations (DFTG) of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who possess piloting experience. These volunteers will operate combat drones and piloted aircraft to defend against aerial threats.
Volunteers participating in the project will be compensated up to UAH 100,000 per month from local budgets. The amount will be calculated based on the number of days involved and the actual air defense tasks performed.
According to the implementation plan, applications for participation will be submitted through a digital platform, with interviews and contract enrollment taking place within a single working day.
